Former atheist journalist turned Christian author Lee Strobel announced that Hobby Lobby will give away half a million copies of his book, The Case for Christmas, across its stores nationwide in time for the Christmas holiday.

“Hobby Lobby stores nationwide are giving away FREE copies of my new book, The Case for Christmas, to customers as long as the half million copies last!” Strobel wrote on X on Dec. 6 as he and his wife, Leslie, visited a Hobby Lobby store in Paducah, Kentucky.

Per Church Leaders, Strobel released a revised edition of The Case For Christmas: A Journalist Investigates the Identity of the Child in the Manger in September, two decades after its original publication in 2005.

“Who was in the manger that first Christmas morning? And how can we know for sure? In this completely revised and updated edition of The Case for Christmas—reflecting the latest scholarship and research—award-winning legal journalist Lee Strobel weighs the evidence to distinguish myth from truth about what happened in Bethlehem,” a summary of the book reads.

The Case for Christmas is one of several books Strobel has written since he released his best-selling book The Case for Christ in 1998, in which he explained his conversion to Christianity after initially attempting to disprove the existence of Jesus, The Christian Post reported.

“As far as I was concerned, the case was closed,” Strobel wrote in the introduction of The Case for Christ. “There was enough proof for me to rest with the conclusion that the divinity of Jesus was nothing more than the fanciful invention of superstitious people … Or so I thought.”

Over the years, Hobby Lobby, which has more than 1,000 locations across the 48 U.S. states, has become well-known for its commitment to Christian causes and ideals, including being closed on Sundays.

“We Are Committed To honoring the Lord in all we do by operating the company in a manner consistent with Biblical principles,” the company stated as part of its mission statement.

Hobby Lobby has also run Christmas and Easter newspaper ads for three decades in order to provide “testimony” about the “meaning of the holiday.” This year’s Christmas message is titled “Jesus is the Gift” with the Bible reference from Luke 2:11, which states, "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

Last week, First Baptist Pastor Robert Jeffress announced that Hobby Lobby founder and CEO David Green donated $7 million to help rebuild the historic sanctuary of the megachurch, which was destroyed by a fire in July 2024.

The company also holds a 2014 Supreme Court victory case (Burwell v. Hobby Lobby) in which it was exempt from providing healthcare coverage for abortion-inducing drugs.
