Our perspective changes when we realize that “the earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” (Psalm 24:1) Whatever we give was never ours to begin with, and giving it cheerfully brings joy.
Needs abound today among the body of Christ and elsewhere. And because of that, everywhere we turn, people or organizations seem to be asking for our money. How can we know where we are supposed to give? And does it count as tithing if we don’t give directly to our church?
Be a family that gives your money away and gets on their knees to ask the Lord for their daily bread, rather than a miser who withholds their money because of their lack of faith.
Back in the day, tithing was a pretty simple process. You'd just put your cash or check in an offering plate. But with so many digital options these days, we have to ask - is it okay to tithe from a rewards credit card?
God’s Word gives us great reasons for being generous to everyone around us, contributing to the needy and poor and generously supporting the work of the Lord.
Like all of us, churches have many bills. But that’s not the most important reason we give. Here are four simple thoughts on why Christians give money to the church.
There is an innate want to have our needs met but also there is a deep desire to help others. That desire is put there by God so that when He prompts us to help, we will respond in kind. We give to the Church in multiple ways. Here are 7 ways you can give to the Church other than money.
Consider challenging your kids to give a personal gift that costs them their own money. Too often, kids are willing and ready to spend our money to fill shoeboxes or to get that kid in class a gift. That's great that they're willing to do that and even notice those needs! But take the challenge a step further.
Jesus viewed wealth and poverty in a non-discriminatory manner. He warns those who are wealthy that they have an important responsibility to give to the poor and that if they are not careful, their riches can lead them into evil.
Before I give you some concrete ways to give when you’re going through a rough patch, let’s first talk about four reasons why giving is important for us to do as followers of Christ.
Lent is a season of the year on the Church calendar that Christians have been celebrating for hundreds of years. It is a roughly six-week period that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter when we celebrate Christ’s Resurrection. Lent has traditionally been a time of reflection on sin in order to repent and turn to God in gratitude for what he did on the cross at Easter. Many Christians, like myself, who grew up in a liturgical church (you can read more about liturgical churches in this Crosswalk article) are likely familiar with the Lenten season and what it means. But for those who are not, here is a little background:Photo Credit: Unsplash/Alicia Quan
What if fasting this Lent actually transformed your habits, not just your diet? These 10 soul-deep shifts can clear out what is draining you and make space for freedom, peace, and a closer walk with God.
What we may not realize is when we give to others, we actually receive something in return. The things that we receive when we give are often more valuable than anything that we could give to yourselves.
