President Donald Trump officially cancelled plans to hold convention activities in Florida yesterday. The President had previously hoped that the city could host some upcoming events associated with the Republican National Convention.

As CNN.com reported, "The move is a striking turnaround for Trump, who moved the convention to Jacksonville after North Carolina's governor raised public health concerns about having massive gatherings in Charlotte, as the GOP had long planned."

The decision comes as the Sunshine State faces a growing number of coronavirus cases. Yesterday, the state set another record for the most deaths from the virus in a single day. As NPR reports, "Florida reported its largest number of deaths in a single day from the coronavirus: 173 on Thursday" with over 10,000 new cases of the virus reported.

In recent weeks, states like Florida and Calfornia have seen their cases skyrocket while the number of cases in states like New York and Massachusetts-- which faced a large number of cases early on-- seem to have bent the curve.

It remains to be seen which convention activities will still occur and where the president will formally accept his nomination.
