President Trump’s chief of staff says Charlie Kirk’s assassination has been devastating for White House staffers. Susie Wiles said Charlie Kirk was “very much a part” of the White House family. And the White House chief of staff told The Scott Jennings Show that this week’s political violence brought back the memories of last year’s assassination attempt on Donald Trump’s life in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Gov. Cox: End Political Violence And Division

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox is making an impassioned plea for Americans and young people in particular to use the horror of Charlie Kirk’s public assassination as an inflection point to turn the country away from political violence and division. Cox spoke Friday at a news conference announcing authorities had a suspect in the conservative activist's killing in custody. Cox says this is a moment to make a choice: escalate or “find an off-ramp.” The two-term Republican governor has, throughout his political career, issued pleas for bipartisan cooperation and drawn national attention for his empathetic remarks. Cox says the suspect in Kirk’s killing had become “more political” before Wednesday’s shooting.

Utah Man Charged With Murder In Charlie Kirk Shooting

The man accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk was being held without bail Friday at the Utah County jail. A court affidavit says Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily harm, and obstruction of justice. Formal charges are expected early next week. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said Robinson had become “more political” recently and had indicated to a family friend afterwards that he was responsible for the assassination. Cox cited as evidence the engravings on bullets found in a rifle, and chatting app messages that a roommate shared with law enforcement.
