President Donald Trump is demanding an apology from the Episcopal bishop of Washington after she asked him to have mercy on the LGBTQ+ community and migrants illegally in the United States during a prayer service marking his inauguration.

Trump and Vice President JD Vance attended Tuesday's service at Washington National Cathedral. Trump criticized the bishop in a post online. The Republican claims the Right Rev. Mariann Budde is a “Radical Left hard line Trump hater” who was “nasty in tone.”

Trump says the bishop and her church “owe the public an apology.”

Budde had asked Trump to ”have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared."
