When The Petty Is Still Petty, But We Act Like It Is Consequential

First they came for the Reflecting Pool.  Now the Kennedy Center.  And warming up in the wings – the proposed Arch.  You know, in a divorce, when suddenly the color of the curtains becomes this hugely contested issue – that’s what this nonsense is like.  It has absolutely nothing to do with the actual issues at hand, it is just a proxy issue because in reality the parties have grown to hate each other – and refuse to like anything that emanates from the other.  And while it clogs up our media, which has clearly chosen sides, it is also clogging up our courts, and confusing the public about serious issues at hand.

At least in the 60’s the people that liked to protest because they thought it was fun protested about something consequential – the War in Vietnam or Civil Rights.  Not anymore, these days we protest about matters of taste and decorum and ignore as best as possible the War with Iran.  This is having very real world and important consequences.

When we bother to debate the actual and important issues, the debate isn’t really debate anymore – it is conducted like the divorcing couple arguing over the drape color.  Fingers are pointed, accusations are made, but the issue is never seriously addressed.  Our current tendency to elevate the petty to national battles is serving only to lower the tenor of our actual important discussions.  How long will it be before we see frying pans flying through the halls outside the courtrooms of D.C.?

I get it people – you do not care much for President Trump’s taste.  Honestly, it is not the way I would chose to decorate either.  I get it, the man has an ego and a half.  Frankly, anyone that runs for President does.  Yet Trump’s “Slap my name on that” forthrightness is quite refreshing after Obama’s nasty, haughty smugness.  But we have bigger fish to fry.  I wish we’d get busy frying them.

When words mean nothing, yet what is said is still obviously wrong.  This is so stupid I can’t really describe how stupid it is.

Both sides have their nutcases.  But people on the right are calling our theirs. On the left they campaign with senatorial candidates.

And, as always, California –

Of course he is, he is using his mouth.

It is, as they say, intuitively obvious, that graft is rampant in L.A. homelessness expenditures.  It is good to see the charges begin to flow.

California is, after all, the land of unintended consequences.  They already will only allow toilets you have to flush twice, saving no water at all.  Apparently short showers are coming next.  Legalizing weed made the illegal weed trade grow and grow.

But those stories are trivial compared to this – “Becerra lost track of over 330,000 illegal alien children during the Biden open borders crisis. There is video of him complaining to his staff that they were not cycling children through fast enough, comparing the process to an “assembly line.” Basically, HHS would hand kids off to anyone who simply claimed to be a relative. It was all about rushing massive amounts of young foreigners into the United States, regardless of how many of them ended up with traffickers.”

That’s California’s “inevitable” next Governor for you.
