The entire world wept after the tragic events of September 11th. Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives that day, but each year we continue to honor their lives and pay tribute to their memories. At we look back at this bleak part of history, it’s important to look at those who rose up and helped their fellow brothers and sisters.

After the towers collapsed, bridges and tunnels were closed throughout the city.

The short film, Boatlift, tells us that “for the first time in over one hundred years, boats were the only way on or off the island of Manhattan.”

That’s when the United States Coast Guard put out a request for aid.

Narrated by actor Tom Hanks, Boatlift, tells the inspiring story of these selfless boat owners and captains who risked their lives to help others.

Captain Vincent Ardolino was watching the events unfold on TV when he decided to leave his house and go into the unknown. “Even if I save one person or I rescue one person, that’s one person less that will suffer and die.”

Over 150 vessels answered the call and helped transport passengers or supplies. Half a million stranded people were rescued and given the necessary aid and care because of these brave men and women.

Their story may not be well known, but it definitely should be. Let us share and lift up these incredible Good Samaritans who risked it all for their neighbors.

Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
